One oversight I realized while putting this together: I didn’t take any pictures of the NYCHA projects we saw along Avenue X, Sheepshead Bay Houses and Nostrand Houses. It’s easier to discard photos you don’t want than to use photos you don’t have.
- Wheeler’s, where Michael used to drink.
- Jimmy’s Famous Heros, where I hope to eat on a future trip.
- Continuing the “Food on Sheepshead Bay Road” theme, Cafe El Greco.
- A few stores at the corner of Emmons Avenue and Sheepshead Bay Road, including the office of Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz.
- The Ocean Avenue Footbridge. Small boats can fit through at the far end.
- Randazzo’s Clam Bar and Restaurant, local favorite for over 75 years.
- Typical sign at the end of a pier.
- Smaller boat using the dock.
- House dating from 1901 on Emmons Avenue. It’s at a strange angle.
- Looking toward the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Bridge from Pier 1.
- Tucker Place, just north of the piers.
- Stella Maris Bait & Tackle, open since 1947. It’s the first building on the south side of Emmons Avenue.
- Varuna Boat Club has been around for over a century.
- Roll N Roaster. “Celebrating [OVER] 40 years”.

- 11 Webers Court, with views of the water (and the junkyard).
- Bungalows along Hitchings Avenue.
- The nautically themed Sailboat Bay.
- P.S. 52, Sheepshead Bay Elementary School.
- Nostrand Avenue, looking north. There could have been a subway here.
- Large apartment buildings on Avenue Y.
- Possible holdover from an old farm.
- This garage is also off-kilter from the street.
- Roller rink near the sewage facility.
- Celebrating 14 years as roller hockey champions!
- Just in case the noxious fumes don’t get you.
- Mmmm … sludge.
- Looking into one of the large buildings.
- Unofficial disposal area behind the abandoned Burger King.
- Once a bowling alley called Rainbow Lanes, now home to Mini-Circuits.
- Sheepshead Bay High School on the left; Shellbank Junior High on the right.
- New Great Wall Chinese Food, where Michael used to get rice and gravy for 35 cents.
- Greenery on Avenue X.
- Verizon telephone building.
- Brilliant fire escape.
- Large homes (and a Porsche) on Voorhies Avenue.
- Yeshiva of Kings Bay.
- Sheepshead Bay Halal Market.
